RAUMLABOR ITW
ON TEMPORARY CITIES
ABOUT YOUR TEMPORARY DEVELOPMENTS :
> How and when did you start building temporary cities or public spaces?
> Can you classify them ? Cities, hotels, public spaces, transport systems… And comment their differences ?
> How do you define your role in these projects ? Why do you often team up in network organizations ? And are you satisfied with extending your own organization (including its difficulties) to other ones ?
> And what is the status of the collaborative dimension (children, students, neighbourghood ordinary peolple) : is a necessity for meaningful project, or how things start, or how you position them, in hope that they be taken over ?
> What is the role of art, in temporary projects ? Do you need it ? Does it need to recognizable as art ? Who do you usually collaborate with ?
ABOUT CONTEXT :
> What did you learn from Berlin when you all moved there and created Raumlabor?
> And how do you relate to the specific context of eastern Germany ?
Is it condition form achieving your kind of project, or could you do it anywhere else ?
> What is happening now for your ideas ? I noticed the inflatable public space was a Ruhr based project : because of the origin of the commission, or the wish to operate in other parts of Germany ?
> What about your experiences in other countries ? And the relation between these types of projects and the more « traditional » architecture commission that you also do ?
ABOUT STRATEGY AND POLITICS :
> Is it more an architectural strategy ? / for instance if building as such was not possible, let’s find a way to be useful as architects without building / Or a political one ? / for instance cities don’t need more buildings : they need better programs
> In what respect do you reach your goals ? In terms of architecture, art, politics, collaborative impact…
> Is the event dimension sometimes a limitation to your statements ? Or to the ability to achieve longer term strategies ?
> What type or criticism did you receive and try to answer to ? We are not talking about the stupid comments only, but also critical points of view that shook a little bit.
> Each of your project is always new and unexpected/daring, but are there directions in the field of temporary actions that you don’t manage to develop, or that would take very specific conditions to be undertaken ? In short : what new directions are going towards ?
ABOUT REFERENCES :
> What references did you have when you started these types of actions?
> Can you list and maybe comment other “temporary cities” groups that you like?
